The Iowa County Sheriff's Office page lists Sheriff Michael Peterson, the Leffler Street address, the main non-emergency number, and the jail extension. Emergencies should use 911 rather than the app, roster, or web forms.
Iowa County Booking Intake
Iowa County does not publish a full booking manual, but the public materials show the custody path. A person arrested by an Iowa County agency, brought in on a warrant, or committed by court order is processed at the Iowa County Jail. The current facility was built with intake cells, medical space, and a day-report room for book-and-release tasks, out-of-custody DNA or UA collection, and public fingerprinting by appointment. Not every person processed through the jail remains housed overnight.
After arrival, jail staff identify the person, check warrants and holds, collect property, screen for safety, and process the arrest or commitment. Booking photographs and fingerprints may be taken as law-enforcement identification records, but the public Iowa County roster does not display mugshots. Release or transfer can later occur by bond, court order, sentence completion, another agency clearing a hold, or movement into DOC or federal custody.
Iowa County Jail Visits
The Iowa County Family and Friends page controls the current visitation schedule. Onsite public visits are kiosk visits at the Sheriff's Office. A visit must be scheduled at least 12 hours in advance by contacting jail staff or using the visitation request form, and the appointment is not confirmed until a confirmation email is received from an officer. Inmates are allowed one 30-minute kiosk visit per week at the Sheriff's Office, and the visitation week starts Sunday.

Visitors should account for several limits. People housed in Intake are not allowed visits. No-contact orders block visits. Probation or parole status may restrict calls or visits. The older jail visitation guidelines also warn that phones, purses, cameras, recording devices, and other prohibited items must be kept outside the visiting area, that visitors may be searched, and that sobriety is required.

Iowa County Records Requests
The roster is not the full booking file. For booking records, incident reports, accident reports, officer reports, witness statements, photographs, audio, or video, use the Iowa County Sheriff's open-records request form or mail a request to Iowa County Sheriff's Office, Attn: Records, 109 E. Leffler Street, Dodgeville, WI 53533. The form lists Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM for records requests to designated persons and says requests are processed as quickly as possible, with 10 to 14 days allowed depending on request type.
Fees listed on the county form include $5.28 for accident reports and incident reports, $26.38 per DVD or CD for audio, video, or photographs, possible shipping, and possible added fees for long-term storage searches. The form also gives an important local limit: incident reports involving a pending investigation or pending court action generally will not be released without prior court order or permission from the Iowa County District Attorney. Wisconsin public-records law gives a broad access right, but law-enforcement records may still be redacted, delayed, or withheld under statutes, court rules, and the public-records balancing test.

Iowa County Jail vs DOC
Iowa County's roster and the Wisconsin DOC locator answer different questions. The county roster is a current local jail list. It can include pretrial detainees, people serving county jail sentences, probation or parole violators, warrant holds, and people held for other agencies. The Wisconsin DOC Person in Our Care locator covers sentenced DOC custody and community supervision. DOC itself notes that county and city jails are separately administered, so a failed DOC search does not prove the person is not in the Iowa County Jail.

Iowa County Federal ICE VINE

Iowa County Jail Facility
Iowa County's official facility map has one local detention facility: Iowa County Jail. It is operated by the Iowa County Sheriff's Office at the Law Enforcement Center in Dodgeville. The county history page describes the current jail as a 102-bed facility with intake cells, medical space, kitchen, recreation space, programming rooms, and a day-report room. It holds adults in pretrial custody, people serving Iowa County jail sentences, probation or parole violators, warrant holds, other-agency holds, and approved Huber or jail-diversion participants.
There is no Iowa County adult DOC prison listed in official Wisconsin DOC facility sources, and no BOP or ICE facility is physically located in the county.
